ABOUT ALPACA FIBER
Alpacas are raised to be fiber producing animals. They are usually shorn annually and produce about 5 to 8 pounds of fleece a year.
The positive aspects of alpaca fiber are its softness, uniform fineness, and strength. Because the fiber is hollow, it provides warmth and is light weight. The fiber is warmer than wool and has no lanolin. If you are allergic to wool, you can probably wear alpaca.
Since the alpacas do not product lanolin in their fiber, the fiber does not need to be processed before it can be spun.
We have expanded our alpaca products including: raw fleece, yarn, knitted hats, gloves, mittens, knitted and woven scarves, sweaters, childrens books, socks, jackets, ponchoes, vests, and much more. Several products that we stock are handmade. Special orders are available - give us a call
Currently, you can find our products at McDowell & Walker in Sidney, NY and The Cream of the Crop at the Old Red Barn in Bainbridge, NY.
The summer of 2011, we will be building a new alpaca store so you will be able to shop in comfort and warmth.
